Many names, many uses
The most diffused plastic material you can find on the market of consumer products are:
PE polyethylene: bags, bottles for cleaners, toys, films, and other packaging
PP polipropilene, having very different uses:object for furniture, food containers, bottles for detergents and cleaners, carpets, garden furnitures, home accessories.
PVC polyvinyl chloride: eggs bowls, films, pipes;it can be find also in doors, windows, tiles.
PET polyethylene terephthalate: bottles for drinks, synthetic fibers.
PS polystyrene: food bowls, cutlery, dishes, caps.
The separate collection of plastic material mainly concern packaging, representing more then 50% of the plastic found in urban waste.
At the beginning such collection concerned only bottles and containers. Currently the separate collection is also covering plastic food packaging such us bags, boxes, bowls and films.
What we can do with that
Plastic Materials are particularly suited to recycling. Polimers enabling the best performance in terms of recycling are PET, PVC, PE.
If separated homogeneously, we can obtain “secondary raw material”,having technical and chemical characteristics very similar to virgin raw materials.
Some examples of products made with recycled plastics:
–with recycled PET: new container (no food), fibers for padding, piles, carpets, cars interiors.
-with recycled PVC: pipes, rainwater drains, strain relieves, product for construction sector.
-with recycled PE/PP: bottles for detergents, caps, film for rubbish bags, film for packaging, households.
Once such materials have been selected for such uses, what remains is the less noble materials: the mixed plastics (Plasmix). Until today Plasmix had to go to the garbage dump or to the incinerators; now we can use them to manufacture the Utilgreen products.
Plasmix, or mixed plastics
The material used for the production of Utilgreen products is Plasmix, that simply means mixed plastics coming from the waste separation.
The raw material is obtained from theselection and treatment of mixed plastic waste, such as basins, polyethylene bags, plastic packaging for food, packing films.
Revet recovers and regenerates the material transforming it in grains, which are then moulded by Utilplastic, turning them into buckets, brooms, flower vase of different sizes, bath cleaners, bases for brooms, dustpans, brushes.
“From home to home”
The path made by our products starts at home of many people sensible to environment protection. These people select and separate their wastes; deliver them in the right days for door-to-door collection or put them in the specific garbage bins.
Companies in charge of waste collection take the separated materials (plastic in this case) to Revet, then Revet separates the different kind of plastic materials. Once separated the more noble parts, the remain are treated and tranformed in grains: these are the raw material for Utilgreen products.
The material we receive from Revet is used to obtain a compound we have studied and developed with our technicians. Through an aspiration and blending machine – granting the plastic blend controland quali-quantity regularity-,the material is transferred to the injection machine automatically. Here we add further additives and colorants in order to obtain a specific product.
Then the material enter the melting chamber; when it reaches specific temperatures, it is pushed at high pressure into the mould, that will shape the piece.
The control of any moulding variables is managed by a computerized system, granting the quality control and repeatabilty.
Cooling of the molded piece is made by a dedicated fridge on the machine; the temperature parameters are set according to the specific characteristics of the piece.
The piece is then unloaded by a robotized collection system and labelled; then is placed on a conveyor belt, enabling the final cooling without any damage.
Now the piece is ready for the quality control, packaging and shipping.
The cycle is closed. We have used an urban waste untill today due to go to incineration with huge economic and environmental costs.
We have reduced oil consumption, CO2 and pollution, long-range transportation for reaching incineration plants.
We have demonstrated that a correct separate collection may reach tangible and effective results with economic and environment advantages.
